Abstract
The effects of 1,1-dimethyl-4-(phenylsulfonyl)semicarbazide (DPSS) on the in vitro activities of 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) oxi dase and ACC synthase isolated from senescing carnation petals were in vestigated. In contrast to a previous proposal, DPSS at 1 mM did not i nhibit the in vitro activity of ACC oxidase. It was confirmed that DPS S does not inhibit ACC synthase activity. DPSS probably does not exert its inhibitory action on ethylene production by a direct action on AC C oxidase and ACC synthase, but by some unknown action.
