MULTICENTER DOUBLE-BLIND-STUDY OF EFFICACY AND SAFETY OF TERBINAFINE 1-PERCENT CREAM COMPARED WITH BIFONAZOLE 1-PERCENT CREAM IN PATIENTS WITH TINEA-PEDIS MOCCASIN TYPE
Z. Wahid et al., MULTICENTER DOUBLE-BLIND-STUDY OF EFFICACY AND SAFETY OF TERBINAFINE 1-PERCENT CREAM COMPARED WITH BIFONAZOLE 1-PERCENT CREAM IN PATIENTS WITH TINEA-PEDIS MOCCASIN TYPE, Journal of dermatological treatment, 8(4), 1997, pp. 225-227
In a multicentre double-blind randomized parallel-group study, 78 pati
ents with mycologically proven moccasin-type tinea pedis were treated
with terbinafine 1% cream or bifonazole 1% cream applied once daily fo
r 2 weeks. The demographic data of both groups were comparable. Of 40
patients treated with terbinafine, the treatment was effective (i.e. m
ycological and clinical improvement) in 82.5% compared with 63.2% of 3
8 patients treated with bifonazole (P=0.05, test of proportion). Both
creams were well tolerated. We conclude that topical terbinafine 1% cr
eam is superior to bifonazole 1% cream in the treatment of moccasin-ty
pe tinea pedis.
