Abstract
Condensation of alpha-azido ketones, easily accessible from alpha-halo ketones, with primary amines has been found to produce alpha-diimines unexpectedly. Also the reaction of an alpha-bromo ketimine with sodiu m azide in dimethyl sulfoxide yielded, via an unusual transformation, an alpha-diimine. In addition. alpha-imino ketones were synthesized by oxidation of alpha-brominated ketimines with dimethyl sulfoxide in th e presence of sodium carbonate and potassium iodide.
