N. Svensson et al., MANUFACTURING OF THERMOPLASTIC COMPOSITES FROM COMMINGLED YARNS - A REVIEW, Journal of thermoplastic composite materials, 11(1), 1998, pp. 22-56
The use of commingled yarns is one of the more promising routes for pr
oducing structural thermoplastic composites. The textile processes ava
ilable enable faster manufacturing and tailoring of the fiber architec
ture of pre-forms. Development of this technology is pushed by signifi
cant interest from, for example, the transportation industry. This pap
er reviews work done on commingled materials, including yam manufactur
ing and preforming, modeling of impregnation and consolidation, and me
chanical properties of the composites.
