J. Coenenhuther, RUSSIAN PATIENCE BETWEEN STRATEGY AND POW ERLESSNESS - SOME ADDITIONAL COMMENTS, Archives europeennes de sociologie, 38(2), 1997, pp. 291
In a previous edition of the Archives, Vladimir Shlapentokh proposed a
n explanation of the surprising patience of the Russian people in the
face of a drop in the standard of living of a majority of the populati
on. Obervations made in the Altai territory confirm Shlapentokh's expl
ication. Using individual adaptation categories as formulated by Merto
n, it is shown how the different adaptation strategies cancelled each
other out and impeded the emergence of an opposition movement.
