HPLC coupled with different detectors, including photodiode-array, MS
rind even NMR, is now commonly used in plant polyphenol analysis. Capi
llary electrophoresis (CE) was first applied ta polyphenols in the ear
ly 90s and opened up great expectations, especially due to the higher
resolution, reduced sample volume and analysis duration. today, CE has
some specific applications in which it presents advantages over HPLC,
but as a general rule, HPLC remains the technique of choice in plant
polyphenol analysis.
