C. Testa et al., THE RADIOANALYTICAL DETERMINATION OF COSMOGENIC P-32 IN MARINE SAMPLES FOR THE STUDY OF THE PHOSPHATE ION TURNOVER IN THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA, Radiochimica Acta, 78, 1997, pp. 159-161
Due to its peculiar half life (14.3 d), cosmogenic P-32 can be used fo
r the determination of the phosphate turnover in the oceans. This pape
r reports the sampling techniques used to collect phytoplankton, zoopl
ankton, particulate matter and to concentrate the dissolved inorganic
phosphate (DIP) from large volumes of sea water. Moreover the radioana
lytical procedures to isolate P-32 and to count the final sources are
described. The preliminary results obtained during three different cam
paignes are finally reported.
