Abstract
This paper takes a fresh look at organizational governance. Using qual itative methods and an interpretive perspective, the authors provide a thick description of the interplay between a large nonprofit organiza tion's board of directors and top managers. Their account highlights t he role of organizational dramaturgy and identity in shaping directors ' behaviors.
