Abstract
Flat polyethylene/polyethylene composite strips produced by pressing f ilament-wound preforms. fibre continuity in the filament wound strips resulted in higher failure strains, better fracture toughness and long er fatigue lives compared with the quivalent angle-zply composites. As expected for angle-ply composites, the mechanical properties depended on the high shear deformation of the matrix which in turn depended on the winding angle. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Limited.
