This paper presents a simplified approach of model construction direct
ly from the process plan. With the model constructed, the relevant pro
cess links between any two surfaces can be easily determined. Unlike o
ther methods, it does not require transcribing the link information in
to constraint equations. The formation of the constraint equations is
made easier by direct read-out from the model. The constraint equation
s can then be solved by using LINDO (a linear programming optimization
software) to generate the working dimensions and tolerances. An examp
le is included for illustration of the method presented.
