SULFUR OXIDATION MEDIATED BY IMINE DERIVATIVES

A number of oxime and benzothiazoline derivatives have been prepared a nd examined as mediators of sulfur oxidation by hydrogen peroxide as o xidant in the presence of base. In all cases, sulfoxidation was observ ed in the presence of the mediators, whereas negligible reaction occur red in the absence of mediator. Carbodiimides were also examined as me diators; they proved to be highly reactive, providing predominant oxid ation directly to sulfone.
