M. Bastea et al., MANIPULATION OF (L)OVER-CAP TEXTURE BY COUNTERFLOW IN SUPERFLUID HE-3A(1), Journal of low temperature physics, 110(1-2), 1998, pp. 63-68
A rectangular resonator chamber is fitted with three pairs of second s
ound transducers Sor studying the spin-entropy wave propagation in He-
3 A(1). The anisotropy in the spin-entropy wave propagation velocity i
s unambiguously established by simultaneously measuring the modes prop
agating in both parallel and perpendicular directions to the applied m
agnetic field. The anisotropic (l) over cap texture within the cell is
''manipulated'' by introducing oscillatory counterflows with one tran
sducer. The manipulated texture is monitored by measuring the resonant
mode with the pair of transducers which are orthogonal to the drive t
ransducer. The manner of texture manipulation depends on both the ampl
itude and frequency of the drive. In some cases, the observed changes
in texture are abrupt and hysteretic. The texture transitions may be o
f first order.
