Jr. Roca et R. Julia, LATE-GLACIAL AND HOLOCENE LACUSTRINE EVOLUTION BASED ON OSTRACODE ASSEMBLAGES IN SOUTHEASTERN SPAIN, Geobios, 30(6), 1997, pp. 823-830
Ostracode fossil analyses of the upper 6.6 m of the Salines core (SE-S
pain), and six C-14 AMS dates provide an outline of the Late-Glacial a
nd Holocene ecological evolution of an arid Mediterranean environment.
Lake Salines has undergone significant changes in its hydrological re
gime and chemistry, which are highly dependent on climate. After a lon
g hypersaline phase, which corresponds to the Upper Pleniglacial and L
ate-glacial periods, the lake records climate oscillations of the enti
re Holocene. During the last 10,000 years two major dry crises occurre
d, one at 8,500 yr BP and another between 7,000 and about 3,000 yr BP.
