Vn. Nekrasov et al., ANALYSIS OF THE POLARIZATION BEHAVIOR OF THE GAS-GENERATING ELECTRODE- THE STEADY-STATE PROCESS, Russian journal of electrochemistry, 33(12), 1997, pp. 1324-1331
Modeling polarization dependences are studied at a gas-generating elec
trode under steady-state conditions. Complications intrinsic to charge
transfer and molization of intermediate products (adsorbed atoms) of
an electrochemical reaction involving formation of a molecular form of
gas species are accounted for through mechanisms of recombination and
/or electrochemical desorption. In the case where adsorption equilibri
um at the electrode obeys the Frumkin isotherm, a general equation is
derived that includes parameters of the adsorption isotherm and partia
l electrode reactions. Special cases are noted that admit analytical s
olutions. Numerical methods are used to conduct modeling calculations
of the steady-state polarization curves and the overvoltage dependence
s of the adsorption coverage. Specific features pertaining to the elec
trode processes that proceed via the recombination, electrochemical de
sorption, and mixed mechanisms are noted.
