ENVIRONMENTAL-CONTROL IN MUNICIPAL SOLID-WASTE INCINERATION - A SURVEY OF THE PLANTS OPERATING IN THE EMILIA-ROMAGNA REGION

An accurate study has been conducted on the Municipal Solid Waste Inci neration (MSWI) plants in the Emilia-Romagna Region. The technological characteristics and operational conditions of the different plants ha ve been examined in order to determine mass and energy balance data an d emission factors for purposes of comparison. The scope of this work has been the definition of a methodology for the study of the incinera tion process that would constitute a basis for a Life Cycle Assessment (L.C.A.) to be employed for a more correct management and a more accu rate control of plants aimed at reducing their environmental impact.
