EXPLORATIVE STATISTICAL-ANALYSIS OF PAH POLLUTION IN SOME COMPARTMENTS OF LAKE TRASIMENO

A multivariate statistical analysis of data from an analytical survey of PAHs in samples of water, sediment contact water and sediment taken from 21 stations located on Lake Trasimeno (Umbria-Italy) is reported . The analysis has been carried out by means of PCA (Principal Compone nt Analysis) and HCA (Hierarchical Cluster Analysis). In this study a qualitative and quantitative pattern distribution of PAHs in waters an d sediments was identified. The goal of the work, referred to a lake w ith very simple hydrological and morphological features, is to contrib ute insights into the phenomenon of the PAH pollution in natural water systems and represents a methodological introduction for multi-media holistic models of lake chemical pollution.
