Attempts to deprotonate and alkylate at oxygen methyltrioxorhenium com
plex (MTO) by means of nitrogen ylides PhC(O)CH-N+R1R2R3 led unexpecte
dly to the known dinuclear Re(VI) complex Me4Re2O4 in 30% (R-1 = R-2 =
R-3 = Et) and 72% (R-1 = Me, R2R3 = (CH2)(5)) yield, and to the corre
sponding ammonium perrhenates ReO4-PhC(O)CH2N+R1R2R3. Both complexes c
ould be fully characterized by their spectroscopic data and by X-ray c
