Abstract
During late 1996 and early 1997, the authors conducted four structured interviews with C. Kermit Phelps, an 89-year-old black psychologist w ho spent his professional career at the Veterans Administration Hospit al in Kansas City, Missouri. Interview topics cover Dr. Phelps' person al and professional history, the evolution of clinical psychology, and issues surrounding minorities in the profession of psychology. This b rief article provides an overview oi some findings as a comprehensive account of the interviews will require considerable time to prepare.
