A new neutron-gamma well logging apparatus for separating in the earth
section of collection strata with poor mineralized water is described
. In such a setting construction materials other than iron are used. T
he probing device (sonde) uses a Cf-252 neutron source and NaI(Tl) spe
ctrometric detector. In conditions of a closed oil well in the optimum
mineralization range (15-40 g chloride salt/l water) the difference i
n registrated data against poorly mineralized water with fresh fluid i
s more than 10% (in porosity 20%). The apparatus has an external stron
g frame with diameter of 90 mm. The maximum operating temperature is 1
20 degrees C. The apparatus is designed for investigation of oil, gas,
hydrogeological wells and ecological purposes. (C) 1997 Elsevier Scie
