The properties and fracture behavior of micro-alloyed and copper-beari
ng hot-rolled steels have been studied. It was found that copper preci
pitation occurred in both the ferritic and the cementite lamellae of t
he pearlite and thus seemed to have influenced the overall properties
of the pearlite microstructure of the steels. A comparison of VC and e
psilon-Cu precipitation observed in the pearlite microstructure is pre
sented. The effect of VC and copper precipitation on microcracking of
the cementite lamellae of the pearlite is also discussed. (C) 1997 Els
