Abstract
The Indian Major Carps Catla catla, Labeo rohita and Cirrhina mrigala, when spawned together in a 'spawning pool', hybridized at an estimate d frequency of about 10%. The F-1 hybrids of these species lack any im proved economic traits hut are fertile and can backcross with the pare ntal species causing genetic introgression.
