The paper describes a system for assessing unambiguously the quality o
f tunnel blasting. The system can be used to compare the working pract
ices of different operations. The economic implications of blasting ac
curacy are analysed on the basis of data collected in actual operation
s. Drilling accuracy Is identified as a primary factor in reducing tun
