Abstract
The energy deposition patterns produced by the radiation environment i n space can be quite different from those in conventional radiation en vironments. Furthermore, conventional radiation biological experiments , using randomly distributed particle tracks, cannot access some varia bles which may be important in determining the health effects of irrad iation. Controlled microbeam irradiation provides the means to investi gate the effects and unique energy deposition patterns and cell enviro nment for a variety of end points.
