Based on two methods, namely the method proposed by the present author
s [8-10], [16-20] and using the software package AUTO 97 [21] a proced
ure has been derived for developing extended bifurcation diagrams for
processes in a porous catalyst pellet. These diagrams include informat
ion about regions of parameters with stable and statically unstable st
eady states as well as about regions of bifurcation to oscillatory sol
utions bounded by the Hopf bifurcation points. They also indicate the
amplitude of oscillations together with their stability. They provide
a wealth of information on the dynamics of processes occurring in cata
lyst pellets; such information is crucial in analysing the operation o
f chemical reactors.
