Abstract
The outline design and results of calculations of the response charact eristics are given for a new design of neutron survey instrument. The novelty of the design is the use of differential attenuation by a thic k boron layer together with moderation by polyethylene or other (CH2,) (n), plastic layers and the linear combination of the signals from a c entral gas-filled detector and an array of outer solid state detectors . The proposed design has comparable mass and better sensitivity than current devices, much improved energy response characteristics, and ad ditional spectrometric features.
