Knowledge of the shape and location of the actuators' response is key
to the design of CD controllers. Responses can be extracted from an es
timate of the systems' closed loop response by applying a carefully ch
osen signal to the actuators' set points which rapidly generates estim
ates of the responses with the minimum disruption to the process. The
performance and speed of the procedure are illustrated with results fr
om an implementation on a CD control system.
