Abstract
We demonstrate optical trapping of gold particles by use of single-bea m gradient force. It is found that the radiation force exerted upon a gold particle can point toward the focus of the incident beam in two d imensions. Computations of the radiation force exerted upon a gold par ticle are also carried out to examine this phenomenon. (C) 1998 Optica l Society of America.
