Poly(o-toluidine) film shows multiple optical transitions (yellow -->
green --> blue --> violet) depending on the oxidation state of the pol
ymer controlled by varying the potentials in the range from -0.3 V to
1.0 volts versus Ag/AgCl. The presence of methyl group affects not onl
y the polymerization reaction bd also the potential window suitable fo
r designing electrochromic devices. A repetitive switching test to est
imate the cycle life of the polymer film indicates stable electrochrom
ic behaviour upto > 10(5) cycles, provided the upper potential limit d
oes not exceed 0.55 volts.
