Manganese(II) complexes of biologically potent ligands hydrazinecarbox
amide (HSCZ) or -carbothioamide (HTSCZ) have been prepared. These are
of the type [MnCl(NX)H2O] and [Mn(NX)(2)] (X is O or S and NX = donor
system). Elemental analyses, molecular weight determinations, molar co
nductance, magnetic moment, electronic, IR and ESR spectral studies ha
ve been employed to characterize these complexes. Magnetic data show t
hat the ground state of these compounds is the expected high spin stat
e and the spectral data suggest that the coordination of the ligand to
the central metal atom takes place in a monobasic bidentate fashion t
hrough the thiolo sulphur or hydroxo oxygen and azomethine nitrogen. T
he representative free ligands and their respective metal complexes we
re tested in vitro against different microorganisms to assess their an
timicrobial properties.
