M. Kleman et M. Singhzocchi, DILUTE POLYMER IN A LYOTROPIC LAMELLAR SYSTEM WITHOUT INTERACTION - APOSSIBLE DEPLETION FLOCCULATION EFFECT, Molecular crystals and liquid crystals science and technology. Section A, Molecular crystals and liquid crystals, 292, 1997, pp. 351-360
It has been observed that a swollen L-alpha phase (Surfactant: Cetylpy
ridinium Chloride; Cosurfactant: Hexanol; Solvent: Brine) keeps (at le
ast) metastable under the addition of a Dilute quantity of a neutral,
flexible polymer (Polyacrylamide) in brine in a large domain of concen
tration (Ref. 3a), however the periodicity of the lamellar phase suffe
rs a strong decrease. We explain this phenomenon by a privileged swell
ing of the polymer coils, under the effect of an osmotic pressure loca
lized in the coil region.
