Abstract
Rabbit sarcoplasmic reticulum does contain trace amounts of gangliosid es, and the main species is GM(3). Incorporation of GM(3) into the SR vesicles or addition of it to the soybean phospholipid used for recons titution of proteoliposomes obviously increased ATP hydrolysis, as wel l as, Ca2+ uptake activity of sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase. Conf ormation changes of Ca2+-ATPase induced by GM(3) were also observed by circular dichroism, intrinsic fluorescence and fluorescence quenching measurements. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
