Intravenous immunoglobulin is now used in a wide range of neurological
conditions. However, side effects are relatively common, treatment is
expensive and sustained benefit unusual without repeated administrati
on. This article aims to provide clinicians with an overview of the po
tential benefits and drawbacks of intravenous immunoglobulin in neurol
ogical practice and concludes with suggested guidelines for its use in
adults.
