Based on the amount of sold timber of the forestry administration of R
hineland-Palatinate in 1994 the timber transports between the forest d
istricts and the customers have been analysed, in order to find possib
ilities for optimizing the option of the means of transport and the wa
ys of transport. The basic data bases on the customer's files respecti
vely the files of sold timber and has been processed by using the Rout
e Planning Programme ''Map and Guide''. Timber, sold by the forestry a
dministration of Rhineland-Palatinate has been transported about 113 k
m, the whole volume of transport amounted to more than 350 Mio m(3).km
. Under exclusiv consideration of transport costs there is a small ran
ge of scope for shifting transports from road to railroad. But in the
case that costs of transport will rise just a small amount an overprop
ortional increase of railway transports is possible.
