Abstract
Isothermally solidified microstructures of the alumina-rich spinel sol id solution-yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) composite was investigated. It was identified that the eutectic phase relation of the YAG-spinel s ystem could be maintained with the formation of an alumina-rich spinel solid solution, despite the significant change in eutectic compositio ns. In addition, divorced eutectic precipitates that have a spinel-ric h composition were observed surrounding the YAG dendrites.
