Selenocyanates possess an extremely high propensity to produce diselen
ides on reaction with selenols or selenolates. This is effectively obs
erved when one molar equivalent of metal hydride or lithium triethyl b
orohydride or one fourth molar equivalent of metal borohydrides are re
