M. Catala et al., DORSAL MESENCEPHALIC LIPOMA WITH INFERIOR COLLICULAR HYPOPLASIA - A CASE-REPORT AND REVIEW OF LITERATURE, Clinical neurology and neurosurgery, 99(4), 1997, pp. 271-275
Intracranial lipomas are rare lesions the pathogenesis of which is sti
ll a matter of debate. We report the case of a patient presenting an a
symptomatic lipoma located in the quadrigeminal and supra-cerebellar c
isterns. The lipoma was associated with hypoplasia of the right inferi
or colliculus and of the rostral part of the vermis. Analysis of the r
elationships between neural tube and meninges prompts us to propose th
at the primary event of this malformation is a defect of the neural an
lage which gives rise to both nervous dysplasia and lack of meningeal
induction responsible for lipoma development. (C) 1997 Elsevier Scienc
