Results of theoretical and experimental studies of the most important
detonation parameters in gases - detonation front cell size a and the
critical energy of detonation initiation E - are presented for variou
s initial pressures and temperatures of mixtures, including detonation
waves in shock compressed gases where these two initial parameters ch
ange simultaneously. The relative decrease of the cell size in detonat
ion waves spreading through a gas behind incident or reflected shock w
aves is of the universal nature for different mixtures and initial pre
ssures (within the range of shock wave Mach numbers studied). This ver
satility of the dependence holds also true for the relative decrease i
n the critical energy E.
