Low-molar-mass surfactants (S) and polyelectrolytes (PE) containing di
azosulfonate chromophores which are photo-labile and electrically char
ged were used for the formation of polyelectrolyte/surfactant complexe
s (PESC) in combination with commonly used polyelectrolytes and surfac
tants. The stable complexes are no longer water-soluble and were chara
cterized by means of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and in so
me cases by means of gel-permeation chromatography measurements. Compl
exes with a 1:1 stoichiometry with respect to charge are formed. Ultra
violet irradiation of the photo-labile PESC resulted in the loss of th
e ionic interactions.
