I. Gonda, MATHEMATICAL-MODELING OF DEPOSITION AND DISPOSITION OF DRUGS ADMINISTERED VIA THE NOSE, Advanced drug delivery reviews, 29(1-2), 1998, pp. 179-184
This articles reviews the mathematical models of deposition and dispos
ition of drugs administered into the human nasal cavity for systemic a
ctivity. The modeling of the disposition kinetics includes drug releas
e from carriers, translocation within the nasal cavity and into the ga
strointestinal tract, drug decomposition, and drug absorption during t
he transit through the nose and the gastrointestinal tract. The uses o
f such mathematical models for design and analysis of nasal delivery s
ystems are illustrated, with particular reference to the new therapeut
ic materials and excipients. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
