We have produced long lifetime He-3 spin-exchange cells from Coming 70
56 glass. The lifetimes of single cells have approached the He-3-He-3
bulk-limited lifetime (250 h at a density of 8 x 10(19) cm(-3), (3 ama
gats)). Coming 7056 glass has the advantage of being a much easier gla
ss for the glassblower to work, allowing for more complex cell designs
. In our experiments at Michigan and at SLAG, we have implemented lase
r diode arrays for spin-exchange optical pumping. In particular, for e
xperiment E154 at SLAG, we achieved high polarizations in high-density
He-3 targets using laser diode arrays.
