Calculated results on the transverse phonon modes in wide gap II-VI co
mpound semiconductor CdTe-ZnTe superlattice, using a one-dimensional l
inear chain model along the growth direction are reported, taking into
account the effect of interactions up to second neighbour and conside
ring the anion to be polarizable with and without the explicit inclusi
on of strain in the equation of motion. A transfer matrix technique ha
s been used to calculate the dispersion relation. Effect of strain on
the TO phonon frequencies in (CdTe)(n)(ZnTe)(n) for thickness n=1 to 5
, have also been investigated. In addition to this, the variation of T
O phonon frequency as a function of reduced wave vector have been stud
ied. The infrared measurements on this system supports the calculated
results of the authors.
