PREPARATION OF POLYOXETANE-CROSS-LINKED P OLYSTYRENES USEFUL AS POLYMERIC SUPPORTS WITH PENDANT FUNCTIONAL-GROUPS

Several polyether-crosslinked polystyrene resins anchoring pendant spa cer-separated functional groups, such as imides and esters, were readi ly prepared by cationic copolymerization of the corresponding styrene derivatives with a bisoxetane. These pendant groups were completely co nverted to an aliphatic amine, aniline, or phenol residue under alkali ne hydrolysis conditions. The styrene monomers, used in this study, we re copolymerizable with oxetanes, as supported by differential scannin g calorimetry and polarized optical microscopy for their copolymers an d blend polymers.
