Fe2O3 fine particles dispersed in a silica gel have been prepared by a
new sol-gel method and characterized. Various samples have been studi
ed by means of Mossbauer spectroscopy for temperatures ranging between
4.2 K and 300 K. The results show that the average particle size and
the kinds of Fe2O3 phase obtained (alpha, gamma or epsilon) are strong
ly dependent of the temperature on the final heat treatment.
