DNA is an excellent complexing agent for ferric iron. However it does
not provide an adequate matrix for Fe-57 nuclear resonance absorption-
at room temperature. Cellular ferritin with large particle size displa
ys a broad resonance at ambient temperature. Therefore only ferritin c
ould provide, if at all, the essential prerequisite for the MIRAGE eff
ect.
