Abstract
Chromosome counts are reported for nine species of Centaurea from Turk ey. Five are new reports and three are confirmations or corrections of previous questionable counts. The correlation between the accepted cl assification of the genus and the karyology is briefly examined. A rel ationship between the reproductive behaviour (allogamy or autogamy) an d the occurrence of dysploidy is suggested. (C) 1997 The Linnean Socie ty of London.
