A 17 GHz, 2.5 kW klystron with fast tuner has been developed as a high
-power transmitter tube for direct broadcasting satellite earth statio
ns. The 17 GHz band was allocated as a new DBS (Direct Broadcasting Sa
tellite) band by the WARC (World Administrative Radio Conference) to m
ake up for the lack of the 14 GHz band. The klystron has achieved worl
d-top data that are 2.5 kW of output power, 27 kg in weight, and 208 m
m x 208 mm x 350 mm in size in the DBS band, and is designed with NEC'
s reliable Computer-Aided Design (CAD) system. This klystron has achie
ved higher quality and higher reliability by innovative design and pro
duction technology.
