Sarracenia purpurea L, plants were studied in seven bogs along the eas
tern seaboard of the United States from New Jersey to Georgia. Water s
ampled from 225 leaves was found to contain several invertebrates. A s
ingle bdelliod rotifer, a form of Habrotrocha cf. rosa Donner very sim
ilar to that described by Bateman (1987) in S. purpurea in western New
foundland, was identified in 70% of the leaves. Investigations are in
progress to examine the possibility that this strong association indic
ates H. cf. rosa is specific to S. purpurea.
