Abstract
We report 2 cases of false pneumoperitoneum. The diagnosis was suspect ed on an upright chest or abdominal plain films. The absence of clinic al signs and symptoms of peritoneal irradiation suggested a wrong radi ological diagnosis. Emergency CT scan definitely eliminated a pnuemope ritoneum and suggested the right diagnosis in both cases. This exam ma y play the decisive role in preventing needless emergency laparotomy.
