Knowledge of colour gamuts and colour gamut characteristics of all dev
ices and materials involved in the system is a precondition for fullya
utomatic colour reproduction in the printing industry. The colour valu
es of the printed and unprinted parts as well as their areas determine
the colour value of the reproduction, so that the characterisation of
the colour distribution on and in the print substrate is of high sign
ificance in practice. Using a RGB camera and image analysis algorithms
(fourier transformation, colour space transformation), it is possible
to calculate both the geometric and spectrophotometric parameters of
a colour print.
