Abstract
In this paper, automatic differentiation of algorithms is utilized in power system analysis. Automatic differentiation is a computational to ol to obtain the derivatives and the value of the function systematica lly without providing explicit expressions for the derivatives. The me thod is reliable and produces accurate derivatives instantaneously wit hout the need for hand-coding the derivatives. The method is applied t o compute the Jacobian and sensitivities in the continuation power flo w [1]. An automatic differentiation package: (ADIFOR) [2] that exploit s sparsity techniques is used for our application.
